Using Profile Pages To Get BacklinksProfile pages are pages that you are allowed to create on many highly publicized websites. The websites that allow these are usually high page rank sites that are visited by millions of people a month. The idea of a profile page is to create a presence on one of these sites and become a free member of the organization or society. For instance, the NFL site has a section where you can become a free member and a have a small presence on their site. In the past these were very good places to place your links on, but recently some well intended marketers started to sell advertising packages on submitting to these sites. They did work well and they created a great service providing links to all of these sites, but a big problem began to surface almost as soon as they did. Yep, you guessed it, spammers also sign up for their services and instead of leaving one or two links on their profile pages, they began leaving hundreds of them. When the site owners got wind of all the spam that was being placed on their sites, they ultimately shut down the profile pages or limited the use of them. Some even took away the option to leave a link to your own website. This effectively ruined it for everyone. Profile pages still work for creating and leaving backlinks, but once again, you go through all the steps involved just to find out that the site owner removed the features that you were signing up to use in the first place. What a waste of time! There are better ways of doing this and for this reason alone, we don't advocate the use of profile pages as a steady source of incoming links to our sites.
